Mentor Mentee
Aim
Mentoring seeks to offer support, guidance, encouragement and assistance to mentees while they endeavour to navigate through difficulties, face challenges and tackle problems. Through concerted initiatives, desired attributes are developed in the mentee.
Objectives
- To bridge the gap between the mentor and the mentee.
- To ensure the quality performance of the students in academics.
- To deal with the related issues for the holistic development of the students.
- To provide mutual support and congenial learning environment.
- To inspire and motivate for higher studies and competitive examinations.
- To discuss stress related issues.
- To regulate the academic involvement and assess the outcome.
The Context
Students of our SMHGGDCW are at a stage in life wherein they face a host of problems related to academics, relationships, health, stress, employment concerns etc. Due to varied reasons, students often do not confide their problems to anyone, which could lead to emotional imbalance, disheartenment and frustration.
This can be remedied through mentoring whereby the students are provided with academic and emotional support. Through their encouragement and guidance, mentors play an important role in nurturing the mentees’ aspirations, preparing them for future challenges, building confidence in them, motivating them to undertake challenges and fostering their all-round growth.
The Practice
The college has a formal mentoring system to ensure academic, social and moral development of students. Each student is allotted a Faculty Mentor who continues to be her mentor till the end of graduation. The responsibilities of the Faculty Mentor and brief highlights of the programme:
- To meet Mentees at periodical intervals or as requested by the students.
- To stay in contact with students.
- To guide and motivate students in academic matters
- To encourage and guide the mentee to participate in various college activities thereby using various platforms provided by the college to help student's groom their personalities:
- Participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities
- Participate in Add-on courses
- Participate in cultural activities
- Participate in extension and outreach activities
- Participate in Research projects
- To build up the confidence of mentee
- To provide support and assistance to the mentee
- To guide students regarding opportunities to develop skills
- To provide Career counselling and guidance
- To inform the parent/guardian of the student if needed
- Maintain contact with the students even after their graduation.
The programme helps students grow academically and personally, ensuring they feel supported throughout their college journey.
All department of Shahid Matangini Hazra Government General Degree College For Women are regularly practicing Mentor-Mentee Program since Academic Session2022-23.
