Introduction of the Department

The Department of Economics is one of the oldest departments of this college. It came into existence along with this college in the year 2015. The vision of the department of Economics consists of exploring the economic study and analysis, policy framing and implementation, issues faced by the Indian economy along with the analysis of other economies in the world. The department thrives to reach standards of excellence in teaching, research and consultancy. The primary mission to provide a high-quality education in economics to future leaders of industry, government and civil society. Our vision is the preparation of students capable of critical thinking and independent analysis for living their lives of responsibility, leadership and service. To create a collaborative teaching, learning and research environment that emphasizes social responsibility, ethical decision-making and a global perspective.

About the Department

The department, since its inception, has been offering undergraduate courses in both Honours and General. The teaching programmes in the Department are focused on proper blending of 'quality' and 'relevance'. The students have performed well in the University examinations and we hope to keep up such level of performances in future as well. Economics becomes a vital subject for learners in this era of globalisation and industrialisation. More importantly, studying economics will help a person to think like an economist. The students here are helped to develop their analytical skills so that they can identify the day-to-day economic problems and understand their implications (both individual and country level). Several newspaper and journal articles are referred for convenience. Consequently, studying economics gives one a superb preparation for many careers in business, government sector, law, research and corporate world. The Department makes use of a well-stocked collection of reference books to aid learners in their learning. The books in the Departmental Library are from well-known foreign publication houses. Keeping in mind the educational background of the students, the library also has a good collection of Basic Beginner, student friendly text books in Bengali version. Although the Department started its journey with one Faculty and fewer students in the year 2015, in recent years it witnessed a significant amount of influx which shows that many students are showing interest in this subject. We are confident that the Department will witness a significant progress with time in terms of infrastructure and resources.

From the Desk of HOD

The department comprises of two faculty members. The faculties of the department inhabit leadership and management expertise which is evident from the major participation of the faculty members in the wide range activities of the university. The faculty members have prominent position in the administration and also handling major affairs of the college with responsibility. The department portrays diversity at each level and yet it maintains integrity along with the realisation of personal responsibility. This multi-faceted approach accommodates the dissemination of knowledge among its stake holders. The faculties of the department are actively involved in enriching themselves academically by participating in National & International Seminars and enrol in several Faculty Development Programmes like Refresher Course and Short-Term Course through HRDC. We are dedicated to the promotion of freedom of expression and diversity in perspective, background, and experience. We value our colleagues, students and treat them with dignity. We trust and support one another and we value everyone's contributions. The department is committed to the advancement of knowledge and learning in the field of economics. The department also envisions achieving high standards of academic performance to provide quality education to students and to deal with economic, social and business realities.
